Response from World Child Cancer regarding recent publication on excess mortality due to COVID-19
World Child Cancer Foundation – The Netherlands is not the sponsor of the publication “Excess mortality across countries in the Western World
World Child Cancer is excited to join forces with renowned biotech firm Amgen in initiating a multi-year effort designed to uplift and safeguard the lives of paediatric cancer patients in underprivileged regions of Africa and Asia.
A startling discrepancy exists in cancer survival rates for children in low- and middle-income countries. Data from the World Health Organization reveals that merely 15-45% of these children conquer cancer, whereas in affluent nations, the survival rate exceeds 80%.
Our joint venture with Amgen seeks to bridge this gap. We are zeroing in on children affected by Burkitt Lymphoma across five chosen countries. This will not only finance the education of healthcare workers to administer optimal care, but also ensure comprehensive emotional and psychological support for these young patients at every stage – diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and their return to school. Additionally, Amgen will supply an effective cancer medication for children with Burkitt-Lymfoon. A significant aspect of this initiative is the development of enduring healthcare infrastructures to guarantee the safe and proficient use of new treatments.
World Child Cancer – The Netherlands will focus on enhancing the quality of care and outcomes for young cancer patients on Java, Indonesia.
Stay tuned for more updates on our progress!
