Introduction

World Child Cancer (“we”/”us”) means World Child Cancer NL and World Child Cancer Global Limited.

We respect the personal data you share with us, or we receive from other organisations, and we will keep it safe.

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information we receive from our supporters. Our supporters are important to us and we will not do anything with your data that you wouldn’t reasonably expect. We will never share or sell your data to third parties.

By collecting personal data from our supporters, we are able to make better decisions, fundraise effectively, therefore saving more lives of children with cancer in the developing world.

Where we collect personal data from

There are a number of ways that we may collect your personal information:

  • You give it to us directly

We collect your personal information when you make a donation, sign up to one of our events, apply to volunteer for us, sign up to our newsletter or contact us.

  • You give it to us indirectly

If you make a donation to us through an online giving platform then these third parties will collect your data, and you should check their Privacy Policy when you use them to make sure you understand how they will process your data. When using these sites, you have the ability to opt-in to hearing more about the work of World Child Cancer, and we will only process your data if you choose to opt-in.

  • Your personal information is available publicly

This includes information on websites, public social media accounts (e.g. if you tag us in an event photo).  This helps us to gain a fuller understanding of your interests as a supporter

What personal information we collect and what we do with it

The information that we collect, store and use may include:

  • Your name and your contact details (including your email address, postal address and phone number);
  • Your bank or credit card information. If you make a donation online, your card information is collected by our third-party payment processors. These processors specialise in the secure collection and processing of card transactions. We will never hold your card information;
  • Information on whether you are a UK taxpayer for us to claim gift aid;
  • Your date of birth;
  • Details about how you found out about our work and your motivation for supporting us; and
  • Any other information that you openly share with us.
We do not usually collect sensitive data unless there is a clear and valid reason to do so and data protection laws allow us to.
We will always try to make it clear why we are collecting different information and what it will be used for.

We will use your personal information to:
  • Keep you up to date with our work and send you communications which may be of interest to you. This may include updates on our programmes, fundraising and volunteering opportunities and information on our events, appeals and campaigns;
  • Process your donation, including gift aid;
  • Keep a record of your relationship with us;
  • Obtain your views on the information that you receive from us; and
  • Notify you of any changes to our services.

How long do we hold your information for?

We only keep your information for as long as is necessary. We are legally required to hold some information for tax purposes, for example.

We take appropriate controls to make sure that your personal data is protected. We will never pass on your information to third parties. We also make sure that your data is only accessible to our trained staff and volunteers.

If it is necessary to protect life or health, for example if there were to be an emergency impacting individuals at one of our events or a safeguarding issue, we may use your personal information.

We may use your information if it is reasonably necessary to do so and it is in ours/your legitimate interest, providing that it doesn’t unduly impact your rights.

  • Updating your details based on information you have provided on third party sites, for example if you have changed address;
  • Sending you postal communications that we think will be of interest to you, providing you haven’t opted-out of being contacted by post.
  • Conducting internal reviews and keep a record of our supporters and volunteers, in order to enhance, modify and personalise our communications and best benefit our supporters
  • Gaining an understanding of how people use our website (e.g. the pages that they visit)
When processing your information in this way, we will always consider any potential impact on you and your rights in relation to data protection laws. We will not use your personal information if we feel that it would be excessively intrusive.

We try and keep our data as up to date as possible. Please do let us know if your personal details change.

Fundraising and marketing communications

We may contact you on the details you have provided to update you on our vital work, our appeals, campaigns and other opportunities for you to support us.

Email/Phone/SMS

We will only send you fundraising and marketing communications by email, phone or SMS if you have explicitly provided consent for these channels. You may opt-out from these communications at any time by contacting us.

Post

We may send you fundraising and marketing communications by post unless you have told us that you would not like to hear from us in this way.

  • You have the right to know what data we hold about you. You can make a request to find out what we data we hold. You also have the right to have a copy of all the information we hold on you.   • You have the right to have any inaccurate information that we may hold on you corrected. If you have reason to believe that we do not hold correct or complete details, please let us know. We really appreciate it if you inform us of any changes to your contact details;

  • You may ask to have all your personal information removed, and under certain circumstances, you have the right for this to be done;
