Work visit to the twinning project in Kenya

From September 14 to 21, 2022, a delegation consisting of World Child Cancer NL, Princess Máxima Center, and the AFAS Foundation conducted a work visit to the twinning project in Kenya.

During this work visit, the patient journey was followed to gain some understanding of the journey a child with cancer in Kenya has to go through. The travel group included Gertjan Kaspers (pediatric oncologist and Director Academy & Outreach), Gita Gallé (COO & CFO of the Princess Máxima Center and board member of World Child Cancer NL), Pauline Geskes (Partnership Manager at World Child Cancer NL), Gerben Eversdijk (Director of AFAS Foundation), and Pardes Menapal (board member of AFAS Foundation).

It was very impressive to visit the partner hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, as well as potential shared care hospitals in the region and a childhood cancer survivor in a remote village.

This journey not only gave the participants a better sense and understanding of the project on the ground but also provided valuable lessons and recommendations regarding the project. In short, it was a meaningful visit.
